This time

This Time is the coming of age story of Kayla, a thirteen-year-old girl whose father has just come out as gay in the late '80s at the height of the AIDS crisis. As Kayla struggles to accept her father's new identity, the dissolution of her family, and the end of her childhood friendships, her physical world begins to unravel as well; she is swept by time winds to the past and the future. Kayla's new abilities allow her to escape from her own time and troubles to the past where she takes solace in friendships with her childhood aunt and father. These relationships thrust her into the middle of family dramas past and present where Kayla must come to the aid of several time refugees. Kayla's journeys through time come to shape her own developing identities as a punk-rocker, a rebel, a queer, and a feminist.
