Changing the conversation: implementing a body positive intervention to reduce fat stigma

This intervention blends together two major intervention frameworks— psychological positive body image and Health At Every Size—to improve San Francisco State students’ body image and to reduce their fat stigma. Using a mixedmethods design, baseline and post-intervention measurements were taken of students’ body appreciation, self-objedification, and anti-fat attitudes; students also completed a one-page program evaluation, and two students were interviewed to follow-up about their experiences with the program. While the quantitative analyses were not-statistically significant, the majority of students reported they would be at least somewhat likely to recommend the program to others. Implications for future interventions are discussed.
