Social Justice and the environment: why ecofeminism is the answer

One of the most pressing and demanding areas of contemporary philosophy is environmental philosophy. In environmental philosophy, there is a subset of the discourse focusing on social justice, political theory and philosophy, and the connection between these issues and the environment. In the social justice vein of environmental philosophy, there are the three main views of Deep Ecology, Social Ecology, and Ecofeminism, all of which look to show the social and political importance of environmental philosophy through their respective theories. Of these three views, I will argue that ecofeminism is the strongest of the three as it alone meets all the criteria for what a proper environmental ethic should be. It will be the goal of this thesis to show that ecofeminism is the superior theory in environmental philosophy when it comes to problems of social justice and the environment.
