Masters Thesis
The racist image: representation and reality
The thesis will focus on how the moving image might be read like a language, how the inception of cinematic syntax occurred simultaneously with colonialism, and how it continues to disseminate white supremacy to this day. The relevance of these observations lies in the surreptitious oppression of minorities in society. Such inequality is apparent in the lack of opportunities, privilege, and benefits afforded to minorities, but more importantly, in the lack of representation. Ultimately, the research will serve as a space for the discourse of the image or as this thesis proposes, the racist image.
