Masters Thesis
Las meta-máscaras limitadas de la identidad sexual en dos novelas autobiográficas contemporáneas
In my thesis, I propose to study how two contemporary autobiographical novels from Spain and Cuba explore the universal desire of every human being to understand themselves, a universal theme that leads the protagonists of both autobiographies to discover their sexual identity. According to J.L. Austin and his performative acts, one creates the world through words {How to Do Things with Words, 1975). Moreover, Foucault argues that power around us creates us {Discipline and Punishment 1975). Furthermore. Butler sees gender as normative and an act of acting (Gender Trouble, 1999). I will make a comparison of both autobiographical novels, contextualizing them in their respective times and place of origin, where I classify the similarities and differences that I find in them.
