Masters Thesis

Black women & holistic health practices

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between indigeneity, Africana cultural practices and holistic health amongst Black women residing in California. The practical value of the project is to allow Black women to define themselves on their own terms with an approach that outlines the interconnectedness to culture and holistic health. The conceptual framework of this study, utilizes self-determination, cultural nationalist and feminist theories to employ purposeful sampling. The participant pool is twenty to thirty Black women in California, over the age of eighteen. As a qualitative research inquiry, I hypothesize narrative analysis will allow me to encourage Black women to remember and tell their experiences of holistic health and ritual.
