Masters Thesis

Gold

GOLD compiles four separate poetry collections, each representing one of the many directions my work has taken over the course of my graduate studies. The first section, HOLOPHRASE, is a group of personal poems connected by their focus on observation, wordplay, and philosophical inquiry. The second, title section, ARCH, pulls together poems that are directly and playfully in conversation with their creative sources: other writers/thinkers, other languages, an iPhone app... ROCK, the third section, mixes poetry and some prose to record and reflect on familial relationships. The final section, GOLD, is a sampling of French to English translations of poems by Guillaume Apollinaire and Stephane Mallarme. As an overall collection, GOLD is bound together by an abiding interest in exploring and connecting spaces: the spaces between thoughts and words, between loved ones, between sources and outputs, and between literary voices across time and languages.
