Rater training in 360 degrees feedback: comparing and contrasting training methods

Rater training is an underused tool in 360 degree feedback in organizations despite research that supports the conclusion that training can improve rating accuracy and decrease rating errors. The current study compared three training methods—text training, video training, and no training. Participants were individuals employed by organizations using 360 degree feedback for leadership development and performance management efforts. A one-way ANOVA found no differences among the groups, F(2, 1765) = .920, p > .05, qp2 = .001. Research and practical implications of the findings are discussed.
