The impact of the federal work-study program on first-generation college students of color

This study set out to understand how the federal work-study (FWS) program currently plays a role at San Francisco State University (SFSU) in supporting college students, particularly students of color, toward college completion and in their career decision-making. The study looked at SFSU as an institutional case study comprised of five individual student case studies. All student participants were high-need and firstgeneration in college. The findings supported previous research that looked at the relationship between student employment and college persistence and career decisionmaking but also identified factors that did not support previous research.
