Masters Thesis

A critique of racism

The Thesis demonstrates that racism is a present day practice of modem society. The complexity of racism is the constant adjustment throughout different eras of makes its behavior difficult to detect. However, by taking a historical analysis of the ideological and practices of race in the United States, the Thesis critiques the practice of racism through its various forms and unique transformation throughout time. Starting with European exploration of the New World and the first interactions between Europeans and indigenous populations is where I see the concept of race and the practice of racism come to life. Furthermore, the gains made by African Americans and other minorities during gains made by African Americans and other minorities during the Civil Rights Movement are commonly seen as a step of progress towards racial equality. This Thesis argues that despite such gains from the Civil Rights Era, racism as it was practice during colonization and slavery, is still being practiced today, but only in a new configuration or transformation. I take a look at the system of incarceration as one of the main institutions to prove this point.
